‘180 Degree Rule’ to vie at Hong Kong filmfest

Iranian feature film ‘180 Degree Rule’ is set to screen at the Hong Kong International Film Festival.

Farnoush Samadi’s feature directorial debut will hit the screen at the 45th edition of the international film event.

Produced by Ali Mosaffa, ‘180 Degree Rule’ narrates the story of a female school teacher in Tehran who wants to travel to northern Iran to attend a wedding ceremony.

When her husband forbids the trip, she makes a decision that may have grave consequences for her.

Sahar Dolatshahi, Pejman Jamshidi, Azita Hajian and Hassan Pourshirazi are among the cast members of the flick.

The flick has been showcased at a number of global events, including the Toronto Int’l filmfest in Canada, the Tofifest filmfest in Poland and the Valladolid Int’l filmfest in Spain, where it won the best film award.

Samadi has already made a good number of internationally acclaimed short films, including ‘Gaze’, ‘The Silence’, ‘Disappearance’ and ‘More than Two Hours’.

In 2018, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars) selected Samadi as a member.

Founded in 1976, the HKIFF45 is Asia’s oldest international film festival and a pioneer in introducing Hong Kong, Chinese language, and Asian cinema and filmmakers to the world.

The upcoming edition of the fest is slated for April 1-12, 2021.
